Cross-border development of the meetings industry impresses the jury

The makers of micelab:bodensee can celebrate winning a second award for innovation following Bodensee17. The research and training platform for event organisers was awarded the 2018 Tourism Innovation Prize on 12 June at the Vorarlberg Tourism Forum in Dornbirn.

micelab:bodensee is the first interactive training platform for event organisers in German-speaking countries. It was initiated by the 13 partners of the network BodenseeMeeting and by “der kongress tanzt” and started operating in October 2016. The platform comprises research and training modules with different special focuses. Great importance is attached to getting together personally, interacting on a basis of trust and an equal footing as well as a co-creative and collaborative approach.

Chairing the competition jury, Brigitte Plemel from Vorarlberg Tourismus congratulated the winners on an “innovative development that has been implemented cross-border and continues to elicit a positive response”. Vorarlberg Tourismus awards prizes each year for innovations in the tourism sector. In 2018, two main prizes and five commendations were awarded. They are endowed with 2,000 and 1,000 euros respectively.

Developing the culture of encounter

A delighted Gerhard Stübe accepted the award at the Tourism Forum. Stübe – leading partner of micelab:bodensee and managing director of Kongresskultur Bregenz, declared: “The award shows us that, in aspiring to promote a ‘culture of encounter that works’ throughout the meetings industry, we really have put our finger on the pulse. The intensive work in our network has once again proved worthwhile.”

micelab:bodensee is funded by the European Union and Switzerland through the Interreg V programme (Alpine Rhine – Lake Constance – High Rhine) through to the end of 2018. After that it will be self-financing; the structures are already in place.

The interactive training platform for event organisers micelab:bodensee comprises a set of modules. micelab:explorer focuses on research; it brings together specialists and trendsetters from various disciplines and is conceived as an idea generator. micelab:experts and micelab:experience, on the other hand, are targeted at MICE industry practitioners, i.e. people who work at congress centres, event agencies and cultural institutions as well as marketing professionals from the business sector. The newly established module micelab:extended is designed to provide support and process consulting and facilitation for companies, institutions and interested parties when organising incentives and events. micelab:extract, finally, summarises the findings of research in one year. Volume I, on the subject of fear and trust, was published in summer 2017. Volume II is scheduled to appear at the end of 2018.

micelab:bodensee is curated by the event dramaturge Tina Gadow and journalist Michael Gleich from the network “der kongress tanzt”. micelab:bodensee is funded by the European Union and Switzerland through the Interreg V programme (Alpine Rhine – Lake Constance – High Rhine).
