More and more organisers want to hold conferences and congresses as Green Events or Green Meetings. The Festspielhaus Bregenz provides the ideal setting for this. Here you can plan your event in an excellent Green Location right from the start – surrounded by greenery and with a view of the lake. Our team will take care of the entire certification process for you and help out with useful tips. It’s a commitment that’s worth making, because it has a positive impact not only on the environment, on people and on budgets, but also on your company’s image.
Events consume resources. We don’t pretend otherwise, either to you or to ourselves. When organising a conference, festival, meeting, ball or Christmas party in one of our 25 spaces, you have a clear advantage from the start: as a certified Green Location, the Festspielhaus Bregenz fulfils key criteria for sustainable events.
The event centre on Lake Constance is considered one of the most active exponents of the Green Meeting idea in Austria. Sustainability for us is not an option, but a matter of principle. The Austrian Ecolabel for Green Meetings and Green Events, for Green Locations, the Meeting Experts Green Award and the ÖKOPROFIT certificate all bear witness to this. Our focus is on the three pillars of sustainability: ecological, economic and socio-cultural.
GREEN LOCATION
If these topics matter as much to you as to us, then the Festspielhaus Bregenz is the right place for you. This can be seen from the building itself: thanks to the modifications and comprehensive refurbishment, which will be completed in 2025, the Festspielhaus Bregenz will be able to operate in future predominantly without fossil fuels. It will be heated and cooled by heat pumps and by water from Lake Constance. The new system is part of the 2030 climate strategy of the municipality of Bregenz, the Vorarlberg State capital. The same system also supplies the new lakeside resort next to the Festspielhaus.

ENERGY FROM WATER AND SUN
Most of the roof surfaces are greened, which lowers the room temperature by up to four degrees in summer – so your conference attendees can keep a cool head without any additional energy consumption. The Festspielhaus is also equipped with a sophisticated waste management system, energy-saving devices and LED lighting. Photovoltaic systems installed on the roof generate around a third of the electricity required.
CLIMATE-FRIENDLY TRAVEL
As we are located across from the central railway station, climate-friendly travel is possible to and from the congress centre. There are direct connections between Bregenz and Zurich, Munich or Vienna every two hours, once a day from Frankfurt and twice a day from Stuttgart. On request and for selected events, admission tickets can be used as public transport tickets. This means that you along with your event participants can happily leave your cars at home.

We successfully renewed our Austrian Ecolabel quality seal in 2023. Sustainable events ensure low resource consumption, which pays off financially, too, by the way. As a result, when planning your event you are free to communicate digitally and dispense with printed materials and giveaways. Our certified catering partner prepares delicious dishes from seasonal and regional ingredients in our in-house kitchen, proving that ecological and economic benefits are not mutually exclusive. If you, your speakers, moderators and participants stay in a sustainable hotel and use bus and rail transport, you fulfil further important criteria for sustainable events.
FREE CERTIFICATION
We keep a close eye on all resources, including yours. Certifying a Green Meeting or Green Event involves a certain amount of work, which we are happy to take off your hands. Our team is specially trained in sustainable event management and has a wealth of experience to offer. We assist you in drawing up your green meeting checklist and with personalised tips on sustainability. The certification process for sustainable events is free of charge for you.

BARRIER-FREE PREMISES
Easily accessible rooms and convenient mobility for wheelchair users, a guidance system for the visually impaired and an audio system make the Festspielhaus Bregenz a barrier-free venue. By implementing these sustainability measures, we are creating the basis for everyone to be take part personally, interact meaningfully, and enjoy culture.
SUSTAINABILITY IN PRACTICE
We are also “green” in the way we treat our staff. This includes performance bonuses, wow points that trainees can redeem for vouchers, weekly yoga classes, company bicycles, the Austrian Climate Ticket for public transport in Vorarlberg, reasonable working hours, and further training programmes – both internally in micelab:bodensee and on external training courses. We also have an in-house environment team, who keep colleagues on track when it comes to sustainability issues.
