On 10 and 11 November 2023, the German Alpine Club (Deutscher Alpenverein) held its annual general meeting at two different locations – and in two different countries – on the eastern shore of Lake Constance. Some 700 delegates from 250 sections attended. For the annual gathering of the German Alpine Club (DAV), the host – the Lindau Section of the DAV – made the most of the close proximity of the towns of Lindau (Germany) and Bregenz (Austria) and was thus able to offer the enthusiastic participants a surprising event location with nature on the doorstep.

The general meeting took place in the Workshop Theatre of the convention centre Bregenz Festival House. Delegates voted digitally on groundbreaking decisions for the future – especially in the areas of climate protection and Alpine sports under climate change conditions.
The trade show in the foyers presented leading Alpine sports equipment brands and related organisations to an interested public. In the break-out rooms, special islands were set up to encourage interaction amongst attendees. They allowed informal networking to take place, which is particularly important at industry congresses.
In Lindau, the 150th anniversary of the merger of the German and Austrian alpine clubs (DAV & ÖAV) was celebrated at an evening event for the sections.
A varied programme of events accompanying the congress included a tour of Bregenz Festival House. The 700 attendees were accommodated at hotels in Bregenz and Lindau, and the guests were able to travel conveniently between locations on public transport thanks to the regional v-mobil event ticket.
